Goal
Nichols Middle School is offering a free morning tutoring program for all interested students on a first come, first serve basis. Nichols staff and Northwestern students will provide tutoring in all subject areas. This is a great opportunity for students to be provided with homework help, re-teaching of lessons and general study skills.
What are the benefits?
You are providing your student with an important opportunity to increase their overall academic skills. We also provide extra worksheets to develop core skills that are tested in MAPP evaluations. If your child needs support in a particular area, you can work with your child's teacher to ensure that those skills are being supported during Morning Mentors through worksheets, games, and problem solving exercises.

FAQs
"Do I need to arrange transportation?"
Students need to arrive to school by 7:15am and meet in the library. The parent is responsible for bringing the student to school. Unfortunately, since this is a program that we run strictly here at Nichols, district-wide transportation is not provided or available.
"Do I need any additional supplies or materials?"
No. Students will use their current supplies and textbooks provided by teachers.
"Is breakfast provided?"
Free, nutritious breakfast options are provided by the program. Students may also purchase breakfast from the school cafeteria and eat it in the library during the program. Breakfast is served in the mornings in the cafeteria and students may bring those breakfasts into tutoring if they prefer.
"Is homework assigned?"
There will be no homework assigned.
"How will I know how my child is doing?"
There will be constant communication between the tutors and your student's teachers. Academic work will be reflected in progress reports on SISK12. The tutor will not be providing progress reports or updates on the program but is available to answer questions related specifically to the program. Teachers will still serve as the primary form of communication but will work with the Morning Mentors coordinator to ensure that students are working on areas of need.
